Black Necked Grebe update 25th May 2025

Black-necked Grebe are generally present on the Reserve for five months from their arrival early to mid-March. They pair-up quickly and the first broods are visible around mid-May. The majority of adults and the earlier, larger, juveniles disperse in July with smaller juveniles present into August.

29th May 2025 - 1st BNG brood reported.

25th May 2025 - 59 BNG counted on a WeBS survey of the Reserve.

10th May 2025 - 45 BNG counted on the Reserve.

01st May 2025 - 11 BNG on No.3 bed.

20th Apr 2025 - 8 BNG on No.3 bed.

12th Apr 2025 - 62 BNG on No.4 bed.

10th Apr 2025 - 57 minimum BNG on No.4 bed - new spring record count.

08th Apr 2025 - 41 BNG No.4 bed alone.

03rd Apr 2025 - 40 BNG counted.

01st Apr 2025 - 36+ BNG on Reserve.

25th Mar 2025 - count BNG now at least 31.

20th Mar 2025 - 25 BNG No.4 bed.

19th Mar 2025 - 23 BNG No.4 bed and 1 No.3 bed.

13th Mar 2025 - at least 21 BNG on No.4 bed.

11th Mar 2025 - Min 17 BNG on No.4 bed.

06th Mar 2025 - 11 BNG counted on Reserve.

04th Mar 2025 - four BNG including pair displaying.

01st Mar 2025 - first Black-necked Grebe sighting No.4 bed, followed by two on No.3 bed late morning.
